Ziff-Davis UK Launches IT Week, the News Weekly for Senior IT Professionals

Biggest UK IT Launch of the Decade

LONDON, Jan.7 /PRNewswire/ -- Ziff-Davis UK today announced the launch of IT Week, a weekly newspaper aimed at senior IT professionals. The new publication will provide in-depth news, analysis, case studies and comment for the most important technology buyers at the UK's largest, most IT-intensive

sites. IT Week will be the biggest launch of the decade in this sector, with an editorial, sales and marketing team of 45 and a multi-million pound investment.

IT Week will debut in the late spring of 1998 with a substantial and uniquely focused controlled circulation. The new title will build on the successful ingredients which have made Ziff-Davis the benchmark for computer publishing in the UK: the deepest and most trusted content; a finely honed understanding of the market based on ground-breaking research; specialist circulation skills; and the building of strong business partnerships with all of its customers. IT Week will fill a gap in the UK market for timely, relevant, objective product and business focused coverage from the enterprise to the desktop.

Claude Sheer, President of ZD Publishing, said, "IT Week will be the most substantial launch in Ziff-Davis UK's six-year history, demonstrating our belief in the importance of the UK market specifically and the European market generally. IT Week will also have access to the unparalleled news and information resources of Ziff-Davis worldwide. ZDNN UK, ZDNet UK's online daily news service, will be extended and enhanced in parallel with the launch of IT Week to offer an integrated and regularly updated news service for senior IT professionals."

David Craver, Senior Vice President/Managing Director Europe, said, "In the increasingly complex world of enterprise computing, serious IT professionals need a serious newspaper to help them make business critical decisions. IT Week will satisfy a need we've seen in the UK market for in- depth, trustworthy coverage of products and trends, and as such will be essential reading for senior IT professionals. We've developed a reputation as the most knowledgeable publisher of magazines aimed at the professional computing sector through our success with PC Magazine, PC Direct and ZDNet UK and through our close relationships with the industry. A weekly completes the picture, exploiting our strengths in editorial, online, marketing, sales and client support. Many of our most trusted clients have been asking us to move into this market, and we've listened to them and acted."

The launch team for IT Week will include some of Ziff-Davis UK's most senior figures: Editor-in-Chief Tony Westbrook, formerly launch Editor-in Chief of PC Direct, then of PC Magazine and most recently of ZDNet UK; Shobhan Gajjar, Group Publishing Director Ziff-Davis UK; and Craver himself, who has 10 years experience in the UK IT weekly market both as an editor and publisher.

"Our proven expertise has been in understanding our readers, creating the highest quality editorial possible and so giving our readers all the information they want -- whatever the editorial resource needed to do it -- IT Week will be no exception," Westbrook explained. "We will cover, in a depth never before seen in the UK, the end-to-end IT experience from mainframe to desktop. We intend to become the newspaper of the Internet the intranet and the networked enterprise."

Reacting to the announcement, Vesey Crichton, Director of Enterprise Business at Compaq Computer, said: "I've felt for years that Ziff-Davis should launch a magazine like this. There has long been a hole in the market. They have the credibility and expertise to fill it."

David McAughtry, General Manager Network Computers IBM EMEA, was enthusiastic about the launch of IT Week: "Great news! The UK enterprise IT community deserves this kind of in-depth weekly coverage."

And Ceri Davies, Media Account Director at Mediapolis, said, "Ziff-Davis has established market leadership through product quality and integrity in their coverage of the IT industry. This coupled with the drive and resource of the organization leaves me in no doubt that IT Week will be a success...and the more choice and focus we have on behalf of our clients, the better."
